FHS Interest Meeting Summary
Introduction
Fayetteville Homeschool Sports (FHS Outliers) is a volunteer-run Nonprofit Organization, organized as a 501(c)3, dedicated to providing homeschool students with a competitive and enriching sports experience. Our program is built on excellence, teamwork, and growth, offering athletes the opportunity to develop their skills, build lifelong friendships, and compete at a high level.
We began three years ago with the intention of providing our kids with the opportunity to participate in school sports while remaining homeschooled. We started with basketball and, after 2 seasons, have expanded to more sports and opportunities for homeschoolers.
Our current leadership for FHS Outliers:
Brett Chivers-President (Also doing Athletic Director duties)
Gerrell Jackson-Executive Director (Assisting in Athletic Director duties)

Amanda Williams- Director of College Recruiting
Monchaily Hendricks- Director of IT and Web presence

Sports overview
We are not currently in a sports conference and are free to schedule whoever we like. This allows us some freedoms in scheduling, but also makes scheduling games a challenge. The intent is for our program to join one of two conferences for the 2026/27 school year to allow all our team members the opportunity to play in end-of-season championships.
We are designed and planned as competitive sports teams. With that in mind, we will have tryouts. The difference for our program compared to a regular school is that we use these tryouts to assess talent and skills, placing players appropriately into the correct level of competition to develop their skills. So we are not intending on “cutting” any players this year. If we have more than enough players for two or more teams within an age or competitive level, we will field two teams to allow for development and competition among those athletes. We expect players and families to take the season, practices, and games seriously, as we have already spent 2-3 months scheduling facilities and games for these programs. We may not start as championship teams, but the intent is to develop competitive programs that produce quality athletes in their respective sports.
Athlete eligibility has been a common question, and we’d like to clarify this. The detailed eligibility document is on our website for review. To play for FHS Outliers, you must be part of an NC-registered homeschool, and your education is being monitored and run by your parents or legal guardians at home. We do not assess the curriculum. The athlete must be homeschooled from the start to finish of the school year, as developed by their parents/guardians.
The registration cost for each athlete is $250 per sport. This cost covers facility rentals for practices and games. Each athlete is also responsible for the price of the sports uniforms. We intend to use the same uniforms for the next few years, allowing them to be reused for multiple seasons. The uniform costs vary, and I will provide those details before the tryouts for each sport.
We do offer a multi-athlete/multi-sport discount, which reduces the price by $50 per athlete and sport for those with more than one athlete participating in multiple sports. Please do not let cost deter you from wanting to get your child involved. If you see price as a barrier to participation, please reach out, and we can explore scholarships to help offset your costs, allowing your homeschooler to play.
Practices are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday each week, unless there is a game or facility closure. There are a few exceptions to this, and they will be thoroughly communicated in advance to make sure you can plan accordingly. We are not currently intending to have any weekend games, except for the basketball, baseball, and softball end-of-season tournament events.
There is more fidelity with the schedule for girls' volleyball and basketball, as they are closer to their start dates than the spring sports. Those sports details will be communicated as their schedules are finalized.

Additional coaches wanted: We have a 100% volunteer coaching staff, and most have full-time jobs that support their families. We are always looking and excited to add to our coaching roster to help alleviate the workload and to add to the development of all our athletes. If you are interested in helping or know someone who would like to be part of our program, please let us know! Experience is not a prerequisite, and we’re looking for individuals who want to help develop and grow young homeschoolers into high-functioning adults.
Fundraising support
To help keep our costs as low as possible, we are conducting some fundraising efforts over the summer. We will be selling TNT fireworks from June 23 to July 6. As an organization, we get 20% of all sales. To accomplish this, we require assistance from up to four people per 3-hour shift to sell and restock the sales tent. The sign-up for the 3-hour shifts is on Sign Up Genius and is listed here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054EA5AE2EA6FECE9-57184419-tntfireworks#/
The more fireworks we sell, the more opportunities we create for homeschoolers. Please consider helping us through our fundraiser by signing up and/or purchasing a variety of fireworks!
Corporate Sponsorship is another way we help defer costs and open up opportunities. We offer sponsorship packages that include online advertising, and we are also selling spots on our season FHS Outliers t-shirt, which will receive extensive visibility throughout the year. If you own a business or know a business owner seeking to gain visibility and support the homeschool community, please let us know. We would be excited to bring them on as an official sponsor of the FHS Outliers.
We also accept tax-deductible donations as a means to support our program. As a 501(c) (3) non-profit, all donations are tax-deductible. Please let us know if you’re interested in donating to our program and helping homeschoolers participate in sports.
Final Thoughts
We started the FHS Outliers as a way for our kids to have the opportunity to compete in school sports. It has experienced significant growth over the last six weeks, and we are excited to help it develop into something substantial for our community. We love that our athletes come from Cumberland, Bladen, Robeson, Harnett, and Hoke counties. We are always looking for opportunities to have homeschooler support in other ways, such as writing athlete highlights articles, writing grant proposals, setting up and running our live video feeds, and other similar opportunities. If your homeschooler isn’t interested in a particular sport and is interested in any of these opportunities or one we haven't mentioned, please let us know!
If you have any specific questions that we didn’t address in this summary, please visit our website (fayhomeschoolsports.org) or contact us, and we will respond promptly. Please email me, Brett Chivers, at outliers@fayhomeschoolsports.org or text or call me at 254-458-4040.

Social Media Director
As a wife and mom to three athletic boys (ages 4 to 15), our family is all about faith, family, and sports. We are deeply rooted in the Christian homeschool community and embrace the adventure God has given us. What started as a simple love for basketball has grown into something much bigger—a family, a community, and exactly what we needed. As a parent to a High School Varsity Outlier, I’ve seen firsthand how sports shape character, build friendships, and bring families together. I’m passionate about sharing our journey and helping connect other homeschool athletes through social media.
